The Washtenaw County Board of Commissioners was scheduled to consider a resolution to support the repeal of the Michigan Stand Your Ground law and other gun control legislation at their September 18, 2013 meeting. Many groups were planning to attend and make public comments but the Board pulled the resolution at the last minute.
Three community members did appear to make public comments against the resolution.
One community member appeared to support the resolution and called the law racist.
After Judy Bonnel-Wenzel called the law racist and American society racist, she was thanked by Commissioner Andy LaBarre for coming and making her comments. He did not thank the members of the public who came to speak in favor of the Stand Your Ground law.
The Board has not said whether or not the resolution will be put on the agenda for the next meeting on October 2, 2013.
